Niigaanakwad Mark Montano

School Board Community Representative

is an enrolled member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa where he was formerly Director of Tribal operations, a tribal council member and vice-chairman of the tribal council. Mark served as a co-chair on the BIA tribal interior budget council. He is currently the executive director of the Lac Courte Oreilles housing authority. Mark is the son of Frank Aanakwad Montano, a world renown flutist and musician. Niigaanakwasd has dedicated much of his life to Ojibwe language and culture promotion and preservation. Mr. Montano believes that the language is who we are as a people, language is us. Mark’s background in financial consultation is especially valued on the Board of Directors. Mark began serving his first term on the Waadookodaading Board of Directors in 2014.
